The Missouri Arts Council noted the Heritage Festival and the Lyceum Theatre as important factors that led to their choice of Arrow Rock for this award. The announcement of the award stated “The Village, State Historic Site, Friends of Arrow Rock, and other organizations produce many annual artistic events: the Spring Garden Show & George Caleb Bingham Art Festival, Children’s Craft Festival, Christmas Folk Sing, quilt camps, weaving seminars, walking tours, writing workshops, a lecture series, and the autumn Heritage Festival, one of the state’s oldest celebrations of historic crafts and music”.

The hills and valleys around Arrow Rock make a beautiful park-like setting. The streets and trails are great for walking/hiking. There are numerous hiking / jogging trails.

Enjoy the Lewis & Clark Trail of Discovery, part of the Jameson Island Unit of the Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge. The Lewis and Clark Trail of Discovery is an all-weather, one mile long trail to the Missouri River. The trail leads the hiker along an old levee through the forest with views of beaver activity. Waterfowl are occasionally seen, and deer and turkey are common. The trail is almost completely level and benches are provided for resting and enjoying the refuge. You can access the trail from the parking lot of the Jameson Island unit or from the Arrow Rock Landing trail in Arrow Rock. Maps are provided at both entrances.

The shelter house in the park available for picnics and there is playground equipment in the park. Don’t miss the view from the overlook in this area.

We are biker friendly! The Katy Trail State Park (pictured right) is nearby for biking/hiking. Consider a side trip to Arrow Rock, either by car or bike. For a small fee, we offer pick up / drop off for bikers traveling the Katy Trail from Boonville, Rocheport, or Pilot Grove depots.
